Full Downgrade Guide - CyanogenMod to Stock

ONLY FOR HTC DREAM (G1)!!!

  • french: it may be the case on other phones, but the french HTC Dream sold by Orange doesn't use the same four-color HBOOT (power+camera) menu as mentioned in the above link or below. Also, this HBOOT doesn't recognize DREAIMG.nbh, as mentioned in the procedure below. A guide to this phone will come shortly.


[edit] Install the original bootloader

  1. Turn your phone off
  2. Press and hold [camera] and [power] to boot into the fastboot screen
    • If you see a four-color rainbow screen, skip to next section
    • If you see three androids on skateboards, continue with this section
  3. Download the G1 Original SPL
  4. Place the file on the root of your SD card
  5. Turn your phone off
  6. Press and hold [home] and [power] to boot into recovery mode
  7. Once in recovery mode, Press [alt]+ [a] (or select "apply any zip from sd") and select the file you downloaded (G1OrigBootloader_nocheck.zip)
    • If you do not see text on the screen, ie - you see /!\, press [alt] + [L] to show the menu, then press [alt] + [S]
  8. Wait for the update to complete, then reboot your phone by pressing [home] and [back]
  9. Once your phone has booted up, turn your phone off again so that we can check to see if the update worked
  10. Press and hold [camera] and [power] to boot into the fastboot screen. It should be the four-color rainbow and should read: VER: HBOOT-0.95.0000
  11. Press [call], [menu] and [end] at the same time to reboot.


[edit] Revert to RC29 (US) or RC7 (Europe) - ONLY FOR HTC DREAM (G1)!!!

  1. Download the RC29 / RC7 dreaimg.nbh file (make sure it's named 'DREAIMG.nbh' or it won't work)
  2. Place the file on the root of your SD card
  3. Turn your phone off
  4. Hold down the Camera button, and press the Power button to enter the bootloader (Make sure you have the "rainbow").
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to flash the image. On some G1s it may require pressing the action button (trackball), while on others it may require pressing the power button.
  6. Once the install is complete, press the trackball.
  7. Press the Call, Menu, and End buttons at the same time to reboot. You may need to unplug your phone for this to work.
  8. You are now back to a stock phone. You can stop here if you are returning your phone.

[edit] Upgrading to Android 1.6 DRC83

This is for US T-mobile customers only

The process to upgrade involves flashing multiple sequential OTA updates - They must be flashed in the proper order to work.

  1. Download signed-kila-ota-148830.de6a94ca.zip (CRB43)
  2. Rename the file update.zip
  3. Place the file on the root of your SD card
  4. Turn your Phone off
  5. Press and hold [home] and [power] to boot into recovery mode
  6. You should see the /!\ recovery screen
  7. Press [alt] + [L] to display the list of options
  8. Press [alt] + [S] to flash the file update.zip
  9. Wait for the update to apply. Your phone may reboot during this process so be patient
  10. Press [home] + [back] if prompted to reboot your phone
  11. Download signed-kila-CRC1-from-CRB43-FIX.7ca4a1d7.zip (CRC1)
  12. Repeat steps 2 through 10
  13. Download signed-kila-DRC83-from-CRC1.c41b93c1.zip (DRC83)
  14. Repeat steps 2 through 10
  15. You should now have a stock, up-to-date phone
