Proposed Page Changes

Should this page assume CM Recovery 1.4 and not talk about the renaming to update.zip and instead use the "apply any zip from sd" option. --Rmccask 18:49, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

I am unsure if any other version of CM Recovery supports theming this way, or if the themes will properly install on anything lower. As for the "apply any zip from SD" option, I'll change the guide to reflect that. Thanks for the reminder! -Zaerath 18:57, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

Update - I have changed it accordingly. Let me know if you have any other suggestions. --Zaerath 19:00, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

I don't know if this is helpful but I install themes using the CM Updater program. For themes that don't support it directly I follow these steps.

  1. Download the theme .zip file (eg. gChrome-0.3.5-4.1.99-LS.zip)
  2. Generate an MD5 checksum for the zip file.
  3. Create a text file containing the MD5 checksum and nothing else.
  4. Rename the text file to match the zip with a .md5sum as the extension. (eg. gChrome-0.3.5-4.1.99-LS.zip.md5sum)
    • Don't forget to leave the .zip before the .md5sum and remove the .txt from the end.
  5. connect your phone to your computer and mount the sdcard.
  6. copy both the .zip and the .md5sum to the cm-updates folder on the root of your sdcard.
  7. unmount the sdcard from your pc and disconnect your phone.
  8. launch CM Update and click on the Existing button.
  9. Select the theme .zip from the drop down menu.
  10. Click Apply Update and follow the prompts for allowing and restarting.

I hope this helps. --CanyonR 14:09, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

Do you have any suggestions or feedback that would help get my instructions accepted into the main page? Forgot to login for previous question. Sorry. --CanyonR 13:52, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

Can i update/upgrade

say i have a theme that only works on 1.2.3.4, then i update cyanogenmod to 1.2.4.1, will the theme still work, should i do something else? 82.25.130.155 12:40, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

The standard practice is to wait until the themer releases a 1.2.4.1 version of the theme. Generally speaking installing an old theme over a newer CM will at least reset all the system apps and framework to the old version. Doing so may cause the phone to not boot, depending what changes are made between given versions. Sometimes you can get away with using a 1.2.3 theme on CM 1.2.3.1, but that depends what the .1 changed. PsychoI3oy 19:25, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
