HTC Magic (32A): Rooting
Installing CyanogenMod on the 32A requires an additional step whereby a custom kernel is applied to the device as part of the installation process.
NOTE: This is for EBI1 device ONLY. This means you have the 3.22.x radio or the 6.35.x radio. This is not for the MT3G 1.2 Fender.
Failure to do this step will result in the device failing to boot beyond the initial "HTC Magic" boot screen.
The process of upgrading from a stock ROM is fairly simple, following the instructions below.
Radio Version
The 32A devices are typically shipped with one of two radios versions: 3.22.x or 6.35.x. The 6.35 radio is installed on all new HTC Magic+ devices from Rogers as well as any Magics that have applied the Rogers "911 Fix."
The radio version can be determined from 2 places:
- About Screen
- While booted go to Settings ยป About and look at the baseband version. You will see a long string with the last piece that looks like: 6.35.10.18 or 3.22.20.17 - that is the radio version
- Fastboot
- This is the most clear and also gives you SPL information.
Please following the instructions for the corresponding radio on the HTC Magic (32A):
- for a HTC Magic (32A) has the 3.22.x radio, see the 3.22.x radio instructions;
- for a HTC Magic (32A) has the 6.35.x radio, see the 6.35.x radio instructions.
