General
- What is the list of advantages/improvements to have CyanogenMod instead of the original ROM?
- See the Features.
- Why should I root my device?
- There are many reasons why you may want to root a device. The most typical reasons are, in no particular order:
- Performance and Stability Improvements;
- More frequent Updates;
- Tethering; and
- Removing Bloatware.
- There are many reasons why you may want to root a device. The most typical reasons are, in no particular order:
- Why should I install CyanogenMod?
- CyanogenMod is a simple and streamlined ROM that focuses on performance and stability rather than a lot of pre-installed apps or a flashy interface.
- Will this work on my device?
- See the Main Page for supported devices.
- Do I have to wipe my data before I install CyanogenMod?
- Short answer: Maybe. Long answer: Maybe. General rule of thumb: Make a backup and then install CyanogenMod. If it works, you're good. If you get weird issues, try wiping and reinstalling.
- Can I tether with CyanogenMod?
- Yes. I recommend using Wireless Tether for Root Users.
- It's taking forever to boot!
- The first boot will take longer than normal because dexopt needs to run. If you are nervous, connect USB and run
adb logcatto watch the progress.

- My device rebooted by itself!
- That's not a question, but if you are using a nightly build, update to the latest nightly and see if that fixes the issue. If not, run
adb logcatand ask on the forum for help.

Apps and Features
- Will you include the HTC Dialer, HTC Mail, HTC XYZ?
- No. These apps require a closed source HTC-modified Android core, which I will not include in CyanogenMod. I will include the "Work Email" application which is the HTC Exchange client.
- Will you include feature X, Y, or Z?
- Maybe. If it is open source, easy to use, and greatly improves the functionality, performance, or stability of the device, I will consider it.
- Will you include this app or that theme?
- Probably Not. CyanogenMod is focused on speed, functionality, and stability. If you want to add your own theme or app, you may do so after installing Cyanogenmod.
Technical
These questions may be out of date, or may be questions that only apply to certain devices. Please see the device specific page for more information.
- Why do I sometimes see an 'H' for the network mode?
| H | = | HSDPA mode (fastest) |
| 3G | = | UMTS mode |
| E | = | EDGE mode |
| G | = | GPRS mode (slowest) |
- NOTE: Almost all 3G devices support HSDPA mode, however most stock firmware only indicates "3G" regardless of whether the device is in HSPDA or UMTS mode. CyanognenMod uses "H" to differentiates between the two modes. Note that HSDPA is not 4G, it is merely an extension of the 3G standard and is therefore only slightly faster than true 3G.
- How do I set up apps-to-sd?
- What about swap?
- Generally, Compcache is activated by a toggle in CyanogenMod Settings, but read the page on Compcache for more information.
- Is ext3/ext4 safe for my SD card?
- Probably, unless the SD card is very old and does not support wear leveling.
- My accelerometer isn't working. How do I fix it?
- Not really CyanogenMod's fault, but here's how you fix it: Boot into recovery and wipe rotation data.
Copyright
- Can I use the work of the CyanogenMod team in my own ROM?
- Of course! Android is all about sharing! Just give credit where credit is due.
